Language
Being a multi-racial country, there are four official languages in Singapore’s constitution: Malay, Mandarin, Tamil and English. However, language is more than just spoken or written words. Language is a form of communication which also extends to body language and habits. Under this theme, participants identified the different ‘languages’ people of Singapore express.
These images are extracts from a film created by artist Susan Sentler titled signs of a nest. The film embodies triggers of the domestic, the everyday, signs of nests.
It is composed of 250 photographic stills from various HDB public housing (Housing & Development Board) in Singapore.

The video is part of a larger installation of Sentler’s of the same title, a multi-media durational work orchestrating film, photography, sound and absence/presence of live performance.
